Here Comes the Sun

The week began as dreary, damp and cold. Looking outside at this moment I am enticed by the warmth and brightness of the sun. I can tell you that the taste of gorgeous weather we had on the weekend of the 20th was so nice and made me want more. Then the reality of "not yet spring" hits with our cold, wind and rain the following few days.

Well the forecast is awesome for the coming days and absolutely fitting for our Easter message. He make Beautiful Things out of ugliness. Our ugly days are giving way to the beauty of spring. Here comes the Sun. To those of you that are dealing with ugly situations or difficult times.. Here comes the Son (a little cheesy play on words but no less relevant), to change your day and maybe your life. We will celebrate a Risen Savior this coming Sunday, but let's celebrate what He can do in your life for He makes 'beautiful things" out of dust and out of us.

All Things New

To me,one of the most impactful moments in the movie, the Passion of the Christ is when Jesus is carrying the cross and He looks at his mother and says: Behold Mother, I make all things new. This line actually comes from Revelation 21:5 "And He who sits on the throne said, Behold,I am making all things new.

We are entering that time of year when newness will spring forth all around us - the warmer days will initiate that ancient cycle of rebirth. A few weeks ago - that word was spoken to our church during the time of worship - that God was about to do a new thing in each of us. What new thing does God want to do for you and in you? Join us this Sunday as we continue the series Mythbusters - we will look at some of the ways God wants to be active in our lives.

Do you have a license?

I still remember the thrill of getting my license to drive. That was 28 years ago. Today I have two daughters who Paula and I have taught to drive and a third one that can get her permit this Summer.

Almost everyone has a license to drive; but do you know that you have a spiritual license as well. Join us this Sunday as we examine what it means to have a spiritual license and deal with the myth that God only uses deeply spiritual people.

Freaky Stuff

How come we view spiritual things as freaky or weird?

We are beginning a new series at Horizons this week called Mythbusters. We will be talking about the Holy Spirit. One of my daughters upon finding out about this new series asked me - "Dad, are you going to be controversial?" It made me smile - we view spiritual things that way - as controversial. But maybe we just don't understand and because spiritual things are beyond us and our common experience; maybe it's a classic case of we fear what we don't understand. I hope to burst some of those myths in the coming weeks.

As a special treat - my dad will be preaching with me in this first week of the series and the videos Jay and I created for the intro should be interesting - if not hilarious. See you Sunday.
